Looking Back on a Special LAMA2 Companion Day 2026

Connecting, sharing experiences and, above all, enjoying time together. On Sunday, 20 September, LAMA2 families from across the Netherlands, as well as from Belgium, Germany and England, gathered in Dordrecht for the annual Companion Day organised by Stichting Voor Sara.

For many families, this day has become a special highlight of the year. A chance to connect without having to explain everything, to share experiences with people who truly understand the challenges they face, and simply to enjoy a wonderful day together.

Alongside plenty of time to catch up, there were activities for the children, delicious food and drinks, and updates on the latest developments at Voor Sara, ongoing research and the future of LAMA2-related muscular dystrophy (LAMA2-RD). Families also had the opportunity to talk to scientists and doctors and ask their questions.

One of the most memorable moments of the day came from Ninte and Sara. Together with singer Angela van Rijthoven, they performed a song they had written themselves about living with a muscle disease, dreaming about the future and, above all, the importance of enjoying what is possible today.
Restaurant Florizz, partner of Stichting Voor Sara, generously provided a delicious barbecue for everyone attending, entirely free of charge.

It was a wonderful day filled with meaningful connections, fun and special moments.
