A safer, climate-ready future for the Meuse-Rhine region

Wildfires, floods, extreme heat waves... just a selection of climate induced disasters that the Meuse-Rhine region faced in the recent years. Imagine one of our green border areas up in flames during a long drought. Emergency teams in each country are ready to help. But they speak different languages, use different systems and follow different plans. When vital information can't be shared quickly, every minute lost puts people, homes and the environment at greater risk.

Right now, emergency systems used by each country are still too fragmented to work effectively across borders. The Hawkeye project is changing that. Its goal is to better prepare the Meuse-Rhine region for future climate-related disasters.

At the core of the project is Paragon, a communication platform developed by Belgium’s National Crisis Center. Hawkeye will utilise this platform so that emergency teams can exchange information in real time between four languages. With a shared view of the situation, where each emergency team has the same information, faster and more efficient coordination is possible.

By improving cross-border coordination, risk awareness and emergency preparedness, Hawkeye helps create a safer future for everyone in the region. Faster response times, effective communication and better planning for floods means our communities on all sides of the border will be safer and more prepared.
