Automatic and more efficient Robotic Welding for copper battery packs - RoboWeld-Batt

RoboWeld-Batt successfully delivered all intended results: The consortium developed and integrated a fully functional automated welding system combining an optimized high-current welding power supply, a high-frequency ignition system and a high-speed linear axis with motion control software and HMI. The axis speed upgrade was completed successfully. The integrated system was validated under representative industrial conditions, demonstrating clear improvements in welding speed, process stability and weld quality. The project confirms the technical feasibility and industrial relevance of the developed technology.

Results & next steps
The collaboration delivered a validated automated battery welding prototype achieving TRL 6, with clear improvements in welding speed, process stability and weld quality. The system will be presented at “The Battery Show Europe” in Stuttgart (Germany) in June 2026. Building upon these results, the consortium submitted an application for a follow-up innovation project - INDUBATT-WELD - within the STIPP funding scheme, targeting at an almost market-ready solution (TRL 8).
